Our goal is to reduce the impact of bowel cancer on New Zealanders and communities, and ultimately, to ensure that no more lives are lost to this silent killer.
Bowel cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death in New Zealand.
It kills as many New Zealanders as breast and prostate cancer combined, and it can affect anyone at any age. But it is treatable – and beatable – if it’s detected early enough.
Support
We support New Zealanders recovering from treatment and those living with bowel cancer as well as their whānau. We do this through one-to-one support services, resources, recipes, our service directory and Facebook support group, and through sharing personal stories. Our goal: to help as many Kiwis as possible to overcome and beat bowel cancer.
Advocacy
Since our inception in 2010, Bowel Cancer NZ has been vocal in advocating for a national screening programme, which finally began to be rolled out in 2016.
Awareness
The more we can raise awareness of bowel cancer symptoms and prevention, the more we reduce the stigma around talking about it with doctors – and with each other.
Education
No one likes to talk about bowel cancer, but the bottom line is, the more you know, the better the chances of beating it. So check out our helpful blogs and tips on preventing this silent killer – and read the stories of Kiwis affected by bowel cancer.
Research
Apart from early detection, research is the most important way to save lives. Bowel Cancer NZ continuously supports a variety of research projects thanks to invaluable funding from our partners.
