We are passionate about seeing the Upper Hutt Community thrive. We do this through three different community projects:
Our dream is to create what we call an Urban Farm, large enough that we can grow enough healthy food at very affordable prices. Then through a combination of cooking classes, a healthy food store and community dinners at different locations around the city, we will be able to support lower-income families to either make their own tasty, healthy dishes at home or they can come along and enjoy a tasty healthy meal with lots of other locals on a regular basis.
We currently have 40 odd raised garden beds spread across two sites, which are now producing loads of beautiful, fresh, spray-free vegetables. We are slowly growing a client base of cafes in town for our range of produce and are looking at further options to expand our production ability.
Our dream is to be part of the creation and provision of ongoing support to a multi-faceted community development project that will enhance the social, mental, spiritual and economic wellbeing of the residents of the Northern Suburbs of Upper Hutt.
The concept we are promoting is that the community knows what they need to enhance their overall wellbeing so rather than assuming we know what they need, we want to ask them. This style of working in the community is called "Community-Led Development".
We have now be on this journey for 3 years and will soon be ready to start rolling out some of the projects the community have talked to us about.
Mental Wellness Training
Our dream is to offer well-researched training to church groups, community groups and corporates throughout the Wellington Region, providing attendees with practical tools to live a resilient life despite what the past, present, or future throws at them.
We are collaborating with MindHealth - The Wellbeing Specialists and run seminars in the Wellington Region.
Mental Health Support
Our dream is to provide loving and reliable support for members of our community experiencing severe mental health issues. Creating an environment where they feel part of a caring community with other like-minded people and are able to share their joys and challenges without judgement and where possible get practical support if needed.
Over the last eight years we have gathered a group of around forty members of the Upper Hutt Mental Illness community and provided a fortnightly event where they can come for encouragement and relationship building over a tasty meal. We also offer all kinds of practical help between events.
