Third Culture Minds wants every young person to unlock their full potential. We believe that positive mental health and wellbeing is important to support young people on this journey.
We believe young people should have access to the services they require to support their growth, free from discrimination & stigma.
Evidence shows third culture kids (young Kiwis of migrant & refugee backgrounds) have disproportionately poorer outcomes when it comes to mental health & wellbeing.
These issues are compounded by a lack of data & a noticeable absence of diverse experiences informing the design & delivery of mental health services.
Third Culture Minds was formed to address these issues and ensure all third culture kids have access to the right kind of support & services.
Advocacy — We are passionate about ensuring that young people have opportunities to be heard, and articulate what will make a difference for them.
Community Engagement — We believe in the power of direct, face to face engagement. We run workshops to connect and empower young people across New Zealand.
Story Telling — We believe in the power of telling your own story and the benefits it can bring others who share your experiences.
Growing up as a third culture kid in New Zealand can be exhausting. As a young person from a migrant or refugee background, you can find yourself having to explain your religion, your culture, and your history over & over.
Third Culture Minds was founded on the liberating experience of not having to explain yourself. To simply tell your story, sharing it with people who understand. We might not be from the same background as you, but we know what it is like to be a third culture kid in New Zealand.
