Together we stand with those in desperate need. We provide immediate relief and pathways to enable long-term wellbeing.
The services we offer have developed over time to reflect social changes, but our purpose remains to help people in desperate need. No two clients’ stories are the same and the people who come to the Mission for help come for many different reasons; some are isolated elderly, others are rough sleepers or people living in cars and inappropriate housing. Others are battling addictions, living with mental health issues, or struggling to feed their families over a period of unexpected crisis.
Food Distribution Services - The Mission’s food parcels are designed to feed a family or individual for 4 days to get them through an immediate crisis.
Health Services - The Calder Health Centre – named after the first City Missioner Jasper Calder – brings primary health care services to Auckland’s most marginalised residents.
Elderly Services - The Mission reaches out and visits people over 55 who are in desperate need and are unable, for one reason or another, to access mainstream services and meet their basic needs.
Drug and Alcohol Services - The Mission provides a range of services for people struggling with addiction, including assessments, a residential social detoxification centre (‘Elm Street’) and a team of Community Alcohol & Drug Workers.
Homeless Services - Staff provide hospitality, support, social interaction and skills development, along with meeting physical needs and addressing long-term issues such as housing, physical and mental health concerns and financial issues.
The Mission was established in 1920 by the Reverend Jasper Calder and remains one of the most significant providers of charitable aid in Auckland.
